Welcome Remarks by H.E. Mr. Victor Sibilev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Botswana at the Piano Concert of Katya Grineva

Ladies and gentlemen,

Colleagues,

Dear friends,

I am delighted to welcome you all to this very special concert by the renowned Russian pianist Katya Grineva. Today we have a rare opportunity to enjoy the finest performance of a classical piano by a world class celebrity.

Born in Moscow, Katya Grineva began playing the piano at the age of five. She graduated from High School of Music of the prestigious Moscow Conservatory. Although living most of her adult life in New York she remains a true representative of the Russian classic piano school with exceptionally romantic style and mastery of playing technique.

Today she presents “the Enchanting Evening of Romantic Piano” – a wonderful programme of masterpieces by several of the greatest romantic composers of the piano. We will hear Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Bach, Ravel and Schumann and composers.

As you know, “musical diplomacy” is the best ambassador for peace and education while music is recognized as the universal language of humanity, especially in today’s turbulent world.

Performing internationally across the world Katya Grineva promotes cultural education and classical music in different countries. Her guest tour in Gaborone today is seen an important step in enhancing Russia-Botswana inter-cultural dialogue and fostering friendship between our nations. I am confident that this concert will become a remarkable event in the Botswana cultural life.

In conclusion allow me to convey special gratitude to the co-sponsors of today’s concert: Director General of Norilsk Nickel Botswana Company Farhat Sattarov and director of Maitisong Gao Lemmenyane for their valued contribution to organizing the event.

I wish you all a pleasant evening! Thank you.
