Royal Moscow Ballet
The 7th of March was a night to remember as classical music and dance filled the Gaborone International Convention Centre. OP Advertising (Pty) Ltd in association with Edouard Miasnikov agencies brought the third installment of the Royal Moscow Ballet as part of the groups Southern African tour.
Introductions were made by OP Advertising MD, Francis Gleeson with speeches by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Botswana His Excellency Victor Sibilev and Deputy Permanent Secretary information and Broadcasting at DTVET, Mr. Mogomotsi Kaboeamodimo who both highlighted the need for sharing cultures through events of this nature.
The house lights dimmed as the children of Risa Ballet School, a Botswana based ballet school, which has operated in Botswana for over forty years, took to the stage. The performance was colourful with a lot of movements displaying the skills the children of varying age groups had learnt. The delighted audience of over six hundred guests was amazed that these were local children performing on an international stage.
The Royal Moscow Ballet group then started their performance transporting the audience to a place of romance and beauty with the first of the two acts. Serenade, a ballet choreographed to Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings was a beautiful piece with a lot of movement.
After the interval the ballets The Black Swan and Francesca Da Rimini gripped the audience with colourful and breathtaking splendour. All three pieces by the Royal Moscow Ballet were a tribute to the Great Russian composer Pyotr llyich Tchaikovsky.
Capital Bank Botswana Limited (CBL) was the main sponsor for this year's event, Capital Bank Botswana Limited (CBL) began commercial operations in Botswana in June 2008, and now has branches in Gaborone, Francistown, Mogoditshane and Broadhurst,
It is hoped that events like the Royal Moscow Ballet provide a diverse assortment of entertainment for the Botswana events calendar as well as foster an appreciation for different cultural experiences and promote the Arts as an avenue for the youth.
