Russian dancers to dazzle Botswana

Moscow dancers from leading Russian choreography schools are set to entertain Batswana on April 12 as part of their Southern Africa tour.

The Royal Moscow Ballet will perform three classical ballet masterpieces at the Grand Palm.

The ballet night will open with the dreamy Chopiniana otherwise known as Les Sylphides followed by the Fiery Carmen and the Paquita Grand Pas.

Francis Gleeson, managing director of OP advertising, said the dancers bring in a different flavour to the music and entertainment calendar since it is a unique event.

He said they had the opportunity to stage the ballet tour in Botswana back in 2007.

He said since then they were afforded the opportunity to stage it again in 2016.

“In the past the ballet that has come were contemporary, however, this time we are going to bring something classical,” he said.

He said the three acts which would feature during the night were classical and well known ballets around the world.

Gleeson said they decided to bring back ballet to Botswana, after the previous shows were well attended.

He said Batswana and ballet loyalist have taken interest in the show.

He further said they have met with some ballet schools in Botswana to encourage them  to bring their students to the show.

He said it would be a great opportunity for the students to see and interact with ballet professional dancers.

Moreover, he said the students  would have first-hand experience of dressroom rehearsals and interact with them.

He said contrary to what people say, ballet was not women dance, and he likened ballet with music.

He said just as music was considered as a universal language, ballet also does not need one to learn a language to watch and enjoy it.

“Two of the three acts that will be performed are set in Span and are about love, struggle and love triangles and this is all portrayed in dance,” he said.

He urged Batswana to attend the show in order to witness the beauty of ballet and learn about the dance. Ends
