of International Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Botswana Lemogang Kwape at the local Congress Center, 11 September, 2020
Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, the Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Botswana,
Senior officials and officers of the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation,
Dear colleagues, Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Heads of Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations,
First of all, on behalf of my colleagues as a Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Botswana I am delighted to congratulate you, Honourable Minister, on the recent appointment. The whole Diplomatic Corps has followed your achievements in the fight against the new coronavirus infection as a Minister of Health and Wellness and now it will be a great pleasure for us to work directly with you in your new capacity.
We appreciate that you were able to gather the Diplomatic Corps together to introduce yourself and share your vision on our future cooperation. In this regard, the Diplomatic Corps welcomes the recently issued Botswana Foreign Policy Magazine which is going to be a vital source of information on current Botswana international priorities.
The interaction between the Diplomatic Corps and the esteemed Ministry has always been close and friendly. I am sure that under new leadership of the Ministry we will achieve even greater success in our joint work.
I would like to take this opportunity to inform the Honourable Minister and the Heads of Diplomatic Missions that today, at the request of the esteemed Ministry, I met with the Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Botswana led by Honourable Mr. Kenny Kapinga, the Member of Parliament for the Okavango constituency and the Chairperson of the Parliament Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence, Justice and Security, who showed keen interest in broadening the cooperation with the Diplomatic Corps, in particular, proposed to hold annual meetings between the Heads of Diplomatic Missions and the Committee to exchange views on the relevant agenda as well as to organize in the near future the visit of Ambassadors and High Commissioners to the Okavango constituency. The role of the esteemed Ministry in facilitating this meeting was instrumental. Therefore, let me thank Honourable Minister for such initiative. We hope that it will give a fresh impetus to our bilateral relations.
Thank you all for your kind attention.
