Entry into the Russian Federation is temporarily restricted for foreign citizens and stateless persons from 18 March 2020 to 1 May 2020
On March 16, 2020, the Government of the Russian Federation issued its Directive No 635-r on temporarily restricting the entry of foreign citizens and stateless persons, including those arriving fr om the Republic of Belarus and citizens of the Republic of Belarus, into the Russian Federation from March 18, 2020 through May 1, 2020. This is being done to guarantee the security of the state, to protect the people’s health and to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection in the Russian Federation.
The restrictions do not apply to accredited or appointed officials of diplomatic missions and their families, the crews of international aircraft, sea and river vessels, members of the official delegations with diplomatic or official passports and persons with private visas issued on the basis of the death of a close relative (issued only when the applicant provides all necessary documents that prove the fact of kinship and death), the residents of the Russian Federation, as well as the individuals in transit zones of Russian entry points, wh ere non-visa regime is applicable.
In this connection, as a temporary measure, the Consular section of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Botswana will stop accepting documents, and cease the processing and issuing all categories of visas, except visas for the above-mentioned persons.
These absolutely temporary measures are motivated by extraordinary circumstances.
