Educational exhibition "Study in Russia – 2019" organized by the Botswana branch of the Russian-African Centre of University Services (RACUS) with support of the Embassy of Russia in Botswana was held in Gaborone Avani Hotel on February 9, 2019.

RACUS is the leading private educational organization in Russia which gives the opportunity to young people all over the world to study in the best Russian institutions of higher education. Founded in 1991 RACUS not only provides assistance for admission of foreign citizens to Russian state universities it also facilitates the enhancement of international cooperation in higher education, promotes the conclusion of agreements between Russian and foreign universities. This organization has 5 departments and representative offices in 61 countries. RACUS office in Botswana was opened in 2001. Its main objective is to organize training for local citizens in educational institutions of the Russian Federation.

Information on the Russian system of higher education and on some of the best universities was presented at the event. The visitors were familiarized with academic programs, specialties, enrolment and study process. The official representative of RACUS in Botswana Ms.Elena Martinova, the Ukrainian national, deliberated on practical and financial issues of study in Russia. She noted that the group of 20 Russian state universities RACUS offered a wide range of specialties in Russian and English languages of studies for Bachelor's, Master's and Post Graduate programs. She mentioned that most of foreign students who came to Russia for studies before proceeding to their basic educational specialities took the Russian language course during their first year. Ms.Martinova underscored that the Russian language was one of the official languages of the United Nations and knowing it would undoubtedly help young people from Botswana to successfully complete their studies and find a suitable job after the graduation.

In his speech Third Secretary of the Embassy of Russia in Botswana Mr.Evgenii Migunov informed that in 2018 65 students from Botswana were sent to Russia, including both on state scholarship and contract basis. It became possible after June 25, 2016 when the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education and Skills Development of the Republic of Botswana on cooperation in the field of education was signed. He mentioned that the distinguished Russian universities offered academic programs which were in demand in Botswana: medicine, mining, engineering, agriculture, construction, energy and water resources, tourism, architecture and building and others. He also emphasized that Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation offered educational programs in the sphere of musical, choreographic, visual art, theater and movie industry in 47 universities and 9 academies. In conclusion he assured the public that further expansion of ties between Botswana and Russia in the sphere of education would remain one of the main aspects of the Embassy's work in Botswana.
