Educational exhibition "Study in Russia – 2018" organized by the Botswana branch of the Russian-African Centre of University Services (RACUS) with support of the Embassy of Russia in Botswana was held in Gaborone Avani Hotel on February 8, 2018.

RACUS is an educational association founded in 1991 on the initiative and with the assistance of several Russian state universities. Today this organization has 5 departments and representative offices in 58 countries. RACUS office in Botswana was opened in 2001. Its main objective is to organize training for local citizens in higher and secondary specialized educational institutions of the Russian Federation.

The exhibition widely advertised in the media attracted a lot of young people most of whom have strong desire to study abroad.

Information on the Russian system of higher education and on some of the best universities was presented at the event. The visitors were familiarized with academic programs, specialties, enrolment and study process. Also the representatives of RACUS Mr.Maxim Sergeev, Head of the Department of Middle East and Southern Africa, and Ms.Maria Fetisova, Manager for International Students Affairs, gave detailed review of students everyday life in Russia as well as their social activities. Special attention was paid to the security measures in the Russian universities and dormitories.

The official representative of RACUS in Botswana Ms.Elena Martinova, the Ukrainian national, deliberated on practical and financial issues of study in Russia. Average tuition and accommodation fees are 2800 – 3500 USD per year depending on the specialty/university. She noted that the group of 20 Russian state universities RACUS offered more than 500 medical, engineering, technical, economic and humanitarian specialties in Russian and English languages of studies for Bachelor's, Master's and Post Graduate programs.

The Botswana alumni of Nizhny Novgorod State University, Mr. Kennedy Letlhogela shared his personal positive experience of study in Russia. He informed the visitors about his professional achievements and career.

In his speech the Acting Head of the Consular Section of the Embassy of Russia in Botswana Mr.Evgenii Migunov assured the public that the development of further partnership between Botswana and Russia in the sphere of education would remain a key element of diplomatic work. Particular attention will be paid to the appropriate consular support, including visas and notarial services. He also emphasized that the Embassy would strongly support all initiatives aimed at promotion of the Russian education abroad and recruitment of talented students from Botswana in particular.
